| Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) intends to use its Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant, in conjunction with the CDTech Center, to launch the Community Building/Stabilization Initiative (CBS). CBS is a community-based partnership formed to increase the participation of grassroots organizations in the Vernon-Central neighborhood of South Los Angeles in promoting economic and housing opportunities for women, youth, and families. The strategy revolves around developing education and training opportunities that directly engage three grassroots leadership groups: Santee High School’s Public Service/Social Justice Learning Academy and the Finance Academy; members of the Opportunidades sin Limites (OSL), a network of South Los Angeles health promoters and other members of the Federacion de Lideres se Sur Centro Los Angeles, a collaboration of Latino grassroots organizations; and middle-school youth involved as emerging leaders in technology. All three groups will be engaged through an integrated program of leadership, community, and asset development.
