Overview
Temple University has been awarded $399,809 in Community Outreach Partnership Centers Program (COPC) funding to assist six public housing developments which comprise the "11th Street Corridor of North Philadelphia." This neighborhood is part of the Philadelphia/Camden Empowerment Zone. The University and the Philadelphia Housing Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding committing both institutions to provide concrete services to the residents of these projects. The COPC grant will be the vehicle by which Temple provides some of these services, including providing scholarships; supporting school retention and academic achievement services; and operating adult education, training, and job preparedness programs. The COPC grant will also help the university become better organized to complement community-led revitalization efforts. Temple and its community partners are providing almost $1 million in matching funds to the project.
