Overview
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, in partnership with Miles College and Lawson State Community College, both historically Black colleges, will undertake a comprehensive program to improve the Titusville community. Issues to be addressed include housing, crime prevention, economic development, neighborhood revitalization, infrastructure, community organizing, job training, and recreation, culture and arts.

The program results from a long-term relationship between the University and the community, known as Titusville 2000, which will tackle these issues in a simultaneous and coordinated fashion. Each issue will be addressed by a subgroup co-chaired by a member of the university faculty and a community partner. Part of the grant will provide stipends to the community partners to compensate them for their time working on the program.
