| The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will use its $149,386 Community Outreach Partnership Center New Directions grant to assist the University District area, a 929-acre area of retail, service and small industries, and residential areas. Following its successful implementation of its original COPC grant, UALR will now work in a larger community surrounding the university. For this grant, UALR will provide job training for small businesses in the area and economic development/revitalization of the University District.
The goals of the project are:
1. To create new businesses in the University District.
2. To establish an economic development strategy for the University District area.
3. To train local leaders in development and Empowerment Zone strategies and incentives.
4. To increase the workforce capacity for small businesses in the University District and the Empowerment Zone.
5. To provide economic opportunities to new immigrant populations, largely Latino, in the area.
The university will partner with the City of Little Rock, Pulaski County, EZ administrators, area businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, and neighborhoods in the University District.
