| The project will serve two predominantly Latino communities in Los Angeles -- Vernon Central and Pico Union -- in which inequitable conditions exist in housing and employment. In a combination of research and outreach activities, the COPC will: develop a plan to eliminate slum-lords and increase the quantity of affordable housing; increase private lending to these neighborhoods; address environmental health issues, such as lead-based paint abatement; create and expand community credit unions; and develop a building materials recycling program.
A Community Scholars Program will recruit and educate people from the two neighborhoods to conduct much of this research and outreach.
