Overview
The $90,000 Community Development Work Study Program (CDWSP) grant at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell will benefit students pursuing a Master of Arts in the Economic and Social Development of Regions. This degree program links theory and practice, emphasizing local applications and interventions designed to improve communities' capacities to meet a wide range of human needs. The core courses are built around four major types of competencies that play an important part in building strong, healthy communities: (a) Development (both physical and human); (b) Management; (c) Advocacy and organizing; (d) Research and information dissemination. Each student will work at three of the following agencies: The Coalition for a Better Acre, Lawrence Community Works, The Lowell Enterprise Community/Renewal Community, Massachusetts Excellence, The Merrimack Valley Project, and The Center for Family, Work, and Community at UMass-Lowell.
