| The University of Massachusetts, Lowell will use a $150,000 Community Outreach Partnership Center New Directions grant will concentrate on the development of coordinating and linking activities in four functional categories. These include strengthening community-university partnerships on Healthy Homes and Brownfields Redevelopment, strengthening community-university partnerships around youth issues, strengthening the city's capacity for planning, and the development of a sustainable dissemination and outreach program to institutionalize the COPC activities. At the end of the two-year New Directions grant a well-defined procedure that can be used by neighborhood and city organizations will be in place to make access to faculty expertise 'community friendly'. In addition, pathways will be open whereby faculty can learn from community residents in ways that enrich their own research and teaching, thus enhance student learning.
