| The University of Missouri-Kansas City will receive $399,195 to establish a Community Outreach Partnership Center in the Kansas City Empowerment Zone.
Specific activities to be undertaken include:
Operating a Business Incubator Without Walls program to help develop businesses in core neighborhoods and provide self-employment and job opportunities for low- and moderate-income families;
Starting a Grandparent Outreach program to provide training and support to grandparents raising their grandchildren and a Grandchild Enhancement program to help address some of the educational risks and behavioral problems of children being raised by their grandparents;
Implementing a Health Watch program for African American males to address the specific health problems they face as a group; and
Developing a Homes for Persons with Disabilities program to help residents with disabilities find safe and affordable housing which they can own. Local partners include the City, the Missouri Department of Health, the City Departments of Housing and Community Development and Neighborhood and Community services, along with eight community-based organizations.
