| The University of Rhode Island will receive $391,918 to establish a Community Outreach Partnership Center in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The project is an outgrowth of the university's Urban Field Center, which has been providing outreach and technical assistance to Rhode Island's communities since 1972.
Specific activities to be undertaken include: holding workshops to improve landlord/tenant conflict resolution; establishing a Campus of Learners at the Gallego Court Family Public Housing Development; creating a university-guaranteed admissions program at Shea High School, which commits the university to admitting students from the neighborhood; and offering English as a Second Language and literacy classes and parenting education programs to adults in the neighborhood.
The Rhode Island School of Design and the Roger Williams University School of Law will also be participating in the project.
