| The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will receive a Community Development Work Study Program grant of $89,550. The grant will provide work study opportunities for students of color and economically disadvantaged students in each of these three programs related to community-building: the Master in Urban Studies, Master in Public Administration, and Master in Urban Planning. All of these graduate programs educate and train students for careers in community-building and development.
The Milwaukee metropolitan area offers a vast array of opportunities for learning in community-building, including programs located in departments of the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County, suburban governments, the plethora of nonprofit agencies in Milwaukee engaged in community-building and neighborhood development, as well as business-based economic development initiatives. Each of the three graduate programs regularly places its students--as part of their educational study--in internships, many of which are directly related to community-building.
