| The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in partnership with the Milwaukee Area Technical College, will focus on two areas of the City of Milwaukee: the Near North Side, a predominantly Latino, Hmong, and Laotian community; and the Near South Side, a predominantly African-American community. Both neighborhoods are in the city's Enterprise Community.
Activities will include: development and implementation of a long-term fundraising plan for a new community-wide economic development council; creation of a community resource center with programs designed by neighborhood residents; provision of housing design services to community groups; provision of information to the Fair Lending Council so that it can ascertain community credit needs and successfully negotiate community reinvestment commitments from lenders; and creation of a Community Fellows Program with community-based action-learning laboratories that are designed and run by local residents for their own benefit as well as for the personal and professional development of the volunteers and employees of local neighborhood organizations.
