Overview
Wright State University will receive a Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) program grant of $399,963 to assist four inner-core neighborhoods in the City of Dayton: Old Dayton View, Southern Dayton, Wolf Creek, and Twin Towers/Newcom Plain. These neighborhoods have significantly higher percentages of poverty, segregation, and vacant and deteriorated housing than the rest of the city. The proposed activities are organized into three major partnerships: community of learners, community building, and community innovation. All these activities are designed to foster community self-sufficiency.

Activities to be undertaken include: creating an education advocacy program to monitor students' progress, along with a program to train tutors to help improve students' progress; developing a community health advocates program to train community residents to help their neighborhoods access health resources; organizing and mobilizing neighborhood residents into effective community organizations; sponsoring an annual housing fair to highlight community assets and promotes these neighborhoods as desirable places to live; and saving a local food market from closing up, and creating a model community food market at the same time.

Partners in the project include the City of Dayton, a local bank, three community development corporations, and the housing authority.
