| Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in Lawrence, Massachusetts, will receive a Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) program grant of $399,684 to address key needs of families in Lawrence, including lack of educational opportunity, need for literacy skills, education and skills leading to economic mobility, and absence of community representation in local and regional economic planning. This COPC initiative will create a strategic partnership with Lawrence Community Works, ACCION-Lawrence, Latin-American Child Care Providers, Tufts University Department of Urban and Environmental Policy Planning, and the Lawrence Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The NECC COPC will implement the following outreach activities to address the most critical needs of Lawrence families, including many recent immigrants: wealth building through financial literacy; needs assessment of Latino small businesses and strategic recommendations; technical assistance, training, and development of bilingual, non-credit and for-credit courses for Latino-owned business; and organizational and community capacity building for grassroots organizations in Lawrence.
