Overview
St. Philip's College in San Antonio, Texas is a member of the five campus Alamo Community College District (ACCD), the largest provider of postsecondary education in Bexar County, Texas, and 11 surrounding counties. All of the ACCD colleges are Hispanic Serving Institutions, and St. Philip's College enjoys the distinction of being an Historically Black as well as an Hispanic Serving institution located in an Enterprise Community. The colleges of the ACCD offer degrees in both academic and vocational programs, evening and weekend programs, distance learning courses, and articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities across the state and nation.

In 1999, St. Philip's College-Southwest Campus established the Urban Neighborhood Improvement Community Academy Project (UNICA) with a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. UNICA, the Spanish translation of which is "the only one," provides free training for disadvantaged youth in home renovation skills such as electrical repair, plumbing repair, and carpentry work. UNICA combines education, training, and hands-on community involvement to address critical community needs for neighborhood revitalization, education and job training, and home improvement and homeownership training.

St. Philip's HBCU project will include renovation of two San Antonio Housing Authority properties for use as UNICA facilities.
