| The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), is an areawide planning organization comprised of the following four universities: the University of Maryland at College Park, which offers Community Planning; the University of the District of Columbia and George Mason University, which both offer Public Administration; and Howard University, which offers Public Administration and Urban Economics. Each of these universities provides an academic program that leads students directly to careers associated with community building, including public administration and planning. At a minimum each student will have three job rotations, enabling them to sharpen their professional writing, presentation, and computer skills. Work placement assignments are with local government and nonprofit organizations focusing on planning, housing, management, and policy. COG remains the regional leader in partnership with other local stakeholder organizations, including universities, in strengthening workforce development and career education and training.
