Overview
The University at Buffalo will use its Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) New Grant to pursue outreach activities and develop applied research projects that aim to resolve problems which hamper neighborhood development. It will do so by implementing a strategy that links housing, educational, and economic development activities.

Four project categories will be coordinated through the COPC:

  • Establishment of the University at Buffalo Neighborhood Transformation Community Outreach Partnership Center.
  • Housing rehabilitation and sustainable affordable housing development.
  • Linking inner-city education to neighborhood development.
  • The Fillmore Avenue Commercial Corridor Revitalization Project.

This comprehensive approach to community development will create a cumulative effect that will slow down and eventually reverse decline experienced by neighborhoods in the target area. The target population for this project is housed in two contiguous neighborhoods that are critical to the revitalization of both the city and its African American community. The target area is comprised of the Fruit Belt and Martin Luther King, Jr. neighborhoods.
