Overview
The North Central Texas Council of Governments will receive a Community Development Work Study Program grant of $270,000 to help three economically disadvantaged and minority students each at the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of Texas at Dallas receive their masters degrees in community building fields. At the University of North Texas, students will be able to pursue a degree in Public Administration; at the University of Texas at Arlington the degree can be in either Public Administration, City and Regional Affairs, or City or Regional Planning; and at the University of Texas at Dallas the degree can be in Public Administration. The grant will not only be used to pay for their education but will also provide funds for work experiences related to their coursework. Among the agencies that students will be able to work with are the City Managers' Offices in Denton, Arlington, and Addison; the Community Development Departments in Keller, Sachse, Dallas County; the Planning Departments in Grand Prairie, Mansfield, and DeSoto; the Near Southeast Community Development Corporation; and the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.
