| Eastern Washington University (EWU) has received a $90,000 Community Development Work Study Program (CDWSP) grant to assist economically disadvantaged and minority students enrolled in its Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
Prospective students will be selected from academic degree programs that have already introduced undergraduates to community development issues. As 1 of only 10 accredited undergraduate planning programs in North America, EWU's program has ties with other undergraduate planning programs and related academic disciplines. Those connections will be utilized to identify prospective CDWSP candidates with an interest in pursuing graduate course work focused on community development.
Students supported by the grant will be assigned to variety o0f work placement agencies with a minimum of three assignments over the 2-year period. Possible agencies include City of Spokane Planning Department; Washington Sate Office of Community, Trade, and Economic Development; and the City of Spokane Neighborhood Planning Program.
