University of Northern Iowa will use its Community Outreach Partnerships Centers (COPC) New Directions grant to undertake the following three new programs in Waterloo, Iowa: - Technical assistance to the Waterloo Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation with the mission of promoting economic development of Waterloo’s Northeast Side.
- Establishing the MyEntreNet program to encourage successful entrepreneurship within the CURA, utilizing technical assistance, networking, mentoring, and access to national databases. This program will be run by UNI’s Regional Business Center.
- Establishing the Neighborhood Youth Safety and Development Partnership, in which neighborhood residents partner with human service agencies and with the Waterloo Police Department to enhance neighborhood safety; enhance opportunities for neighborhood youth to engage in constructive recreation; provide support for new families entering the neighborhood; and empower neighborhood residents to influence community-wide youth programming decisions.
