Overview
Modesto Junior College (MJC) intends to use its Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant to implement a two-phase project. In Phase One, "Turlock Transitions!," MJC will move two houses (currently stored in fields) to two new housing sites and handle their total rehabilitation. The final outcomes will be the addition of two new affordable homes in the City of Turlock, increased service learning opportunities on campus, development of marketing materials and advertisements in English and Spanish outlining training, and service learning opportunities at MJC. The second phase of the grant project, "Pathways to Hope," will allow the college, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, the City of Modesto, and other volunteers, to revitalize the neighborhood surrounding Hope Village and provide for a truly affordable, safe neighborhood for community residents.
