Overview
Barber-Scotia College is a 4-year private liberal arts undergraduate institution that is historically related to the Presbyterian Church. The college was founded in 1867 as Scotia Seminary for the education of African-American women. In 1930 Scotia Seminary merged with Barber Memorial College of Anniston, Alabama and was renamed Barber-Scotia College. The campus consists of 23 acres and is located near the downtown business district of Concord, North Carolina.

Barber-Scotia College in coordination with Cabarrus County Community Development Center will use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities Grant (HBCU) to provide five activities that will be useful for the community. Barber-Scotia College will provide public service activities, establish a pilot IDA program, establish a loan pool for the acquisition of vacant land, provide homeownership assistance, and provide fair housing services to the community.

Cabarrus County Community Development Center will provide life skills training to the people of Cabarrus County, while Barber-Scotia College will provide the educational training needed to afford individuals and families a better quality of life.
