Overview
Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, will receive a Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant of $409,960 to provide assistance to the Terry Heights/Hillandale communities of Huntsville. Among the activities to be undertaken with grant funding are: rehabilitation of 20 substandard/blighted owner-occupied homes; expansion of the range of adult education courses available to residents; creation of a second adult learning center; provision of job training and business development services; and expansion of an after-school tutorial program for at least 100 children in grades K-5. Partners in the project include the Huntsville Housing Authority, Alabama State Employment Services, Huntsville City Schools, and many community-based organizations.
