Overview
Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, will use its $550,000 Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant to complete construction of the Dillard University International Center for Economic Freedom facility. This new 31,000-square-foot facility will house administrative offices, meeting rooms, training spaces, and additional spaces for learning and technology access for the population of nontraditional students served at the university. The grant will also expand the existing nontraditional program on campus to include the St. Bernard Community (SBC)/Services for Human Initiatives and Promotion (SHIP) initiative. Project SBC/SHIP will implement a program to address one of the anti-poverty strategies outlined in the Consolidated Plan for the city of New Orleans, in which the city stated its commitment to allocate resources for a period of 5 years to address increasing the number of preventive health programs for the poor.
