Overview
Dillard University intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant, through the Gentilly Neighborhood Investment Project, to help accelerate the recovery and repopulation of one of New Orleans’ most historic neighborhoods. Through this project, the Dillard Community Development Corporation will establish a one-stop resource facility, the Gentilly Resource Center for community residents, coordinate rehabilitation of homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina, provide life-skills training and technical training in construction and environmental remediation, and facilitate the revitalization of the Gentilly Commercial Corridor (GCC). In developing priorities for the Dillard-Gentilly Neighborhood Investment Project, Dillard University has embraced the concept of asset-based community development. The successful implementation of this project will advance the recovery of the university and create demonstrable evidence of growth and development within the wider New Orleans community.
