Overview
LeMoyne-Owen College Community Development Corporation (LOC-CDC) intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant to fund three activities slated to help revitalize the vital community of Soulsville, located in the heart of the City of Memphis. The first activity is to strengthen the capacity of the LOC-CDC to address the priority needs of the city. The second activity is the Soulsville Economic Development Initiative, which will educate and assist businesses and encourage the creation of new jobs and resources that are community-based. This will include the creation of a state-of-the-art business incubator located along the Mississippi/Walker Corridor, a major entryway into the community. Finally, LOC will focus on residential and commercial development by supporting the development of New Town Center at Soulsville. This activity also encompasses a revolving loan fund that will provide bridge financing to local Community Housing Development Organizations, which will assist in facilitating a more timely process of affordable housing development initiatives in the city.
