Overview
Texas Southern University (TSU) proposes to utilize its Economic Development Center (EDC) as the catalyst of this economic development activity. TSU proposes to expand its role by providing services to the third, fourth, and fifth wards of the City of Houston's designated Enhanced Enterprise Community Zone (EEC) and other economically distressed areas of the city. TSU will use HBCU resources to further neighborhood revitalization; expand existing businesses and/or create new businesses; increase opportunities for employment and job training; and provide EEC businesses with access to technical assistance and business development. These objectives will be accomplished by implementing a TSU-EDC revolving micro-loan fund; providing training for self-sufficiency, especially to the handicapped, well skilled/trained welfare recipients, and the low-income; and providing EEC business development management and financial loan assistance.
