Overview
Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, will use its $550,000 Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant to increase its role and effectiveness in addressing economic development needs in Houston communities. The proposed activities will increase the knowledge of future homebuyers, which in turn will lead to increased homeownership opportunities; promote participation with a grassroots faith-based organization; provide technical assistance to selected small ethnic minority business program participants who have been in business for 10 years or more (as priority); provide special seminars/lectures on business operational and managerial strength; provide skills training to public housing residents, GED participants, and the unemployed; and provide skilled services in business operation and management to create and expand economically disadvantaged small businesses and minority enterprises.
