Overview
Texas Southern University (TSU) intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant to expand its role and effectiveness in addressing community and economic development needs through a 36-month program—Community and Economic Development Program to Alleviate Community Slum and Blight—implemented through its Economic Development Center. The objectives of this program are to: create collaborations/partnerships among agencies, educational organizations, and the business community to support, nurture, and sustain the family; assist community-based development organizations in carrying out neighborhood revitalization and community economic development; plan and execute special economic development activities and assistance to facilitate economic development by providing technical and/or financial assistance for the establishment, stabilization, and expansion of microenterprises, including minority enterprises; and provide computer technology, career planning, job preparation, and placement workshops for the low- to moderate-income, unskilled, unemployed, and homeless.
