| Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, will receive a Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant of $500,000 to expand the capacity and activities of the Benedict-Allen Community Development Corporation (CDC). Grant funds will be used to: rehabilitate two duplexes that will result in four rental units for low-income families; provide training opportunities in affordable housing construction for 10 youths through HUD’s YouthBuild program; create a microenterprise loan pool to assist building trainees purchase tools and equipment; and hire staff for the CDC to oversee construction activities and provide outreach on a wide range of housing services.
