Overview
Benedict College will use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant to develop the Read Street and Waverly communities of Columbia, South Carolina. Using $500,000 in HBCU funds, Benedict College will create an economic catalyst through the construction of a mixed-use building, which will house a restaurant, cultural center, loft apartments, and commercial space. The college will also address the needs of the Read Street community and the Greater Columbia area by building the Shoppes at Read, a contemporary facility designed to meet the needs of urban villagers.
