Overview
Hinds Community College–Utica Campus intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant in a collaborative effort with the Town of Utica, Friends of Utica, and other agencies and/or organizations to revitalize the Utica community. By working through the program manager and support staff in a community development program housed in the on-campus Workforce Development Center, the college will address community housing issues, such as substandard housing conditions, decent and affordable housing, overcrowding, and homeownership counseling. The college will also address employment creation and retention as well as neighborhood revitalization. To go along with neighborhood revitalization, the institution will also work with local business owners in an effort to expand or improve the look, appearance, and perception of their businesses and to offer resources that will help business get started, grow, and be sustained.
