Overview
The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant to fund the development of the Frederiksted Resource Center to conduct the following four project activities: construct an extension on the UVI Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (CELL) Center in Frederiksted, St. Croix; create a community business center to augment the capabilities of the UVI Small Business Development Center, by providing existing microenterprises and individuals interested in starting a business with occasional office space and business support capabilities to conduct Internet research, marketing, advertising, and administrative activities; develop a computer learning center, equipped with software tailored to different competency levels, to assist individuals with math, reading, writing, and English language competency skills; and implement a Virgin Islands Department of Labor (DOL) Access Point, to extend services of the DOL One Stop Centers in the town of Frederiksted. The center will provide resume writing, job search assistance, and basic and specific training for employment in high demand occupations.
