Overview
The C.A. Fredd Technical College Campus of Shelton Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will receive a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant of $300,000 to undertake capacity building activities. The campus will work with the residents of Union, a rural town, with very little community-based infrastructure. Working with Union’s Mayor and volunteer fire department, C.A. Fredd will undertake the following activities: establishing a community resource center; creating a public service program on home safety; organizing the community to develop a strategic plan; and developing job training programs. The hub for the planned activities will be the Union Fire Station. This is the Campus’ first HBCU grant.
