Overview
Johnson C. Smith University/Northwest Corridor Community Development Corporation (NWCCDC) will use a $531,651 Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant to provide community development services to the 12 neighborhoods of the Northwest Corridor section of Charlotte. This project consists of a component to support a portion of the core operating expenses (including 3 student interns) of the NWCCDC for 2 years; an affordable housing new construction/rehabilitation/marketing component for homeownership for households at 50 to 80 percent of AMI; a $2.5 million loan program component for working capital, equipment and machinery, vehicles, renovations/repairs, and property acquisition to stimulate economic growth and job opportunities among businesses located in the Northwest Corridor; the implementation of the Historic West End Initiative; and a homeownership training/counseling component.
