Overview
North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro will receive a Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant of $548,000 to help alleviate economic problems in southeast Greensboro. Grant funds will be used for acquisition and rehabilitation of real property to accommodate community economic development programs, including construction trade job training; to provide technical and financial assistance to a community-based organization to rehabilitate a historic structure called Magnolia House; and for development of low-income, energy-efficient homes through a partnership alliance with residential building association and nonprofit homebuilders. Collaborators on various aspects of these projects include the Greensboro Home Builders Association, Magnolia House, Bennett College, YouthBuild, Greensboro Habitat for Humanity, the Center for Energy Research and Technology, and the Advanced Energy Corporation.
