| Fort Belknap College (FBC) is a tribally controlled community college located on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in northcentral Montana. The college received its original charter in 1984 from the Fort Belknap Indian Community Council. FBC received its initial accreditation in 1993 from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, which is a regional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
FBC intends to use its Tribal Colleges and Universities Program (TCUP) grant to build a new library. The proposed library facility will be a college-owned building that will adjoin FBC’s new cultural learning center. As a result of this project, FBC will improve the overall quality and accessibility of its library, while significantly increasing its size and capacity. Specifically, the new facility will: 1) provide a structurally sound building to serve the library’s patrons and house its information resources; 2) meet ADA requirements for public facilities; 3) offer convenient parking for student and community access; 4) establish a centralized library location in the middle of campus; 5) increase the overall size of the library by 23 percent; 6) increase the seating capacity of the library by 25 percent; and 7) house an instructional classroom for use in library outreach and training activities.
