Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Hawaii will utilize a $579,586 Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities grant to support and sustain the two-year Wai'anae Organic Agriculture Initiative (WOAI). The WOAI will expand the institution's role and effectiveness in addressing community development needs - principally the improvement of Wai'anae's food security - in the predominately Native Hawaiian community residing in and along the Wai'anae Coast of Oahu. The school will acquire 8 acres of land and buildings, establish the Wai'anae Organic Agricultural Center, and develop curricula, specifically a Microenterprise Training Program.
