| Lehman College (LC) proposes to use its Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities grant to increase the number of residents in the Bronx who are employed. LC intends to offer four activities with experienced community partners: 1) the Lehman Small Business Development Center and the Mosholu Preservation Corporation will create a business association using a Business Improvement District model; 2) the Bronx Data Center, the Lehman College Department of Geology and Geography, and the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation will create a resource for businesses seeking information about relocating or expanding in the Bronx; 3) the City College Architecture Center and the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center will create classrooms for electrical and plumbing education; and (4) the Lehman College Department of Nursing will train 15 afterschool supervisors to teach a bilingual (English and Spanish) Health Promotion Life Skills program to reduce tobacco and alcohol use in children and teens.
