Overview
Tennessee State University (TSU) intends to use its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grant to continue its assistance to the low- and moderate-income residents in the North Nashville community through its Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement. In partnership with eight community and faith-based organizations, Metro Nashville Government, and the citizens of the Watkins Park, Hadley Park, Preston Taylor, and Tomorrow’s Hope Communities, TSU will use the grant funds to: renovate physical facilities of three community-based organizations; upgrade educational and technology access to youth in the target area by purchasing educational materials, improving technology, improving tutoring/mentoring programs, and evaluating academic performance of participants at four community- and faith-based organizations; and provide operational support and technical assistance to three neighborhood associations to provide infrastructure for their work and allow the RiverWest Community Development Corporation to begin delivering its own projects by the end of the grant period.
