Overview
The University of Arizona will use a $90,000 grant to engage three students from economically disadvantaged and/or minority backgrounds in graduate education in either Planning or Public Administration in order to earn a master of science (M.S. in Planning) or a master of public administration degree (M.P.H. in Public Administration and Policy). The academic training received will prepare the student for a career in community building and provide the skills necessary for the evolution of careers in the knowledge driven economy.

During the course of study, requiring either 52 or 54 credit hours, the student will engage in applied research and action learning in three internship settings, rather than the single internship, which is required in both departments. The intensity and diversity of the internship will extend and solidify professional skills and experiences, opening career doors and enhancing the educational experience of graduate school.

Agencies willing to participate include the Arizona Community Foundation, City of South Tucson, Pima County Community Services Department, and Pro Neighborhoods.
