The University of Texas at San Antonio intends to use its Hispanic-Serving Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC) grant to foster family self-sufficiency by renovating the Jose Cardenas Child Development Center and providing information to increase homeownership and improve housing options. The program will develop an Edgewood Westside Community Resource Center and renovate the Cardenas Child Development Center. The Jose Cardenas Center, the site to be renovated through the HSIAC grant serves students and families from three federal public housing facilities, Mirasol, Villa Veramendi, and Menchaca Homes.
