Overview
Ilisagvik College (IC) is located in Barrow, Alaska, and provides outreach services to the outlaying villages of Anaktuvuk, Pass, Atqasuk, Kaktovik, Nuiqsut, Point Hope, Point Lay, and Wainwright. The mission of the institution is to provide quality post-secondary academic, vocational, and technical education in a learning environment that perpetuates and strengthens Inupiat culture, language, values, and traditions. IC proposes to use the Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities (AN/NHIAC) program grant to improve delivery of its distance education programs. The courses provided through its distance delivery technology are designed to increase student skills in business management, office systems and procedures, and to help individuals and families achieve economic self-sufficiency. IC will partner with the North Slope Borough. Both entities are committed to increasing the number of residents that have stable, sustainable employment.
