| Ilisagvik College will use its Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities (AN/NHIAC) grant to expand their skills academy program to help individuals and families achieve economic self-sufficiency. They will provide targeted, village-based training in business management and supervision, which will entail regular travel to the outlying villages of the North Slope Borough. Starting in the second year, they will provide courses via distance delivery technology in addition to the classroom training. The purpose of the project is to encourage businesses to expand and diversify and to encourage individuals to pursue microenterprises. The focus of the program will be on serving low- and moderate-income individuals.
