| South Carolina State University in Orangeburg will receive a Historically Black Colleges and Universities grant in the amount of $549,945 to develop a mixed-use community on a 25.67-acre tract of vacant land in Orangeburg called Palmetto Estates. Palmetto Estates will be a new mixed-use residential community that will consist of 50 affordable single-family homes, 40 affordable multifamily rental units, 40 senior housing rental units, and a 30,000-square-foot multi-purpose building. It is designed to provide a quality living environment that will promote self-sufficiency and homeownership opportunities for low- to moderate-income families and individuals.
