Overview
Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, will receive a Community Outreach Partnership Centers grant of $396,704 to found the Colorado State University Community Organizing to Reach Empowerment (CORE) Center. The center will provide opportunities for the residents of the target community-the Poudre Valley Mobile Home Park-to build on their strengths and develop their capacity for addressing perennial urban problems. Through collaborative efforts involving existing expertise and resources from Colorado State University and local community organizations, the CORE Center will undertake the activities in the following areas:

  • Affordable Housing and Home Improvement. The center will sponsor a housing fair; workshops on topics such as homeownership, fair housing, and home improvement; home security inspections; and housing counseling and advocacy.
  • Public Safety and Personal Well Being. The center will sponsor neighborhood meetings, a safety fair, neighborhood watch, community connections, and individual and group counseling.
  • Educational Opportunity and Economic Development. The center will offer homework assistance, life skills training, computer literacy training, service learning, adult education classes, economic literacy classes, employment training and career counseling, and enrichment activities.
