| East Carolina University (ECU) in Greenville, North Carolina, will use its $399,950 Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) grant to enhance the lives of the more than 55,000 citizens of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The ECU-Central Rocky Mount Partnership will combat deteriorating neighborhood conditions, the general lack of social access points, and inadequate healthcare options available to city residents. The Neighborhood Revitalization Program, planned by the ECU COPC, includes neighborhood cleanup, crime prevention watch training, neighborhood beautification, and enhancement of homeownership opportunities. The Social Development Program includes activities such as outreach for the elderly and Hispanic populations, as well as life skill enhancement initiatives. The Health Education and Awareness Program includes activities such as focus groups, community health festivals, and urgent needs programs that will assist in bridging the gaps in healthcare for city residents.
