Overview
Frostburg State University (FSU) in Maryland will receive a Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) grant of $383,709 to establish two COPCs that will serve two neighborhoods in Cumberland, Maryland, and the town of Frostburg. A partnership of FSU and more than 40 community organizations, including community and business leaders, nonprofit agencies, and neighborhood organizations, will carry out this initiative. Through resident surveys and community meetings, the partnership identified community needs that these COPC-funded activities will address:

  • Community capacity building: COPC would coordinate training programs and service projects with community organizations, FSU faculty, and students to help build lasting partnerships within these neighborhoods.
  • E-Coordination: FSU faculty and local agencies will work together to create an E-Coordination Center at each COPC. The centers will provide a database of available services, including employment training, business assistance, micro lending, and health.
  • Neighborhood real estate marketing campaign: FSU faculty and students will assist targeted neighborhoods to promote homeownership by educating prospective buyers about the potential for available properties, many of which were designed by prominent architects, and about resources for renovation.
