Overview
Chief Dull Knife College (CDKC) is a tribally controlled institution located on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in extreme rural southeastern Montana. CDKC grants 2-year degrees and is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. CDKC intends to construct an Early Childhood Learning Center in association with its partners through the American Indian Housing Initiative-Penn State and the University of Washington. The proposed construction will provide an energy-efficient, high-performance childcare and educational facility for the college and the surrounding reservation community. The center will function as a traditional day care facility to meet the critical needs of a continuously growing tribal college, whose parent-student population represents between 80 to 85 percent of the annual college population. In addition, this facility will be incorporated into the college’s curricular activities so that courses in special education and early childhood development may simultaneously use the facility as an applied-learning lab. The center will also offer evening community workshops in parenting and early childhood development.
