Overview
Leech Lake Tribal College (LLTC) was established in 1990 by the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Tribal Council. LLTC offers 15 two-year degree programs and is grounded in Anishinaabe knowledge and culture. The college’s goal is to be an academic institution that provides the highest quality education to underserved and economically disadvantaged individuals, primarily Native American students. The college is currently housed in five old buildings. The buildings are in substandard condition, costly to lease, and are not ADA-compliant. Multiple locations, space limitations, and access barriers present challenges to the students, faculty, and elders. The buildings are inadequate for the overall current needs and projected growth of the college. These factors prompted planning for building a new campus to proceed in three phases. The college’s students, staff, faculty, and the community all participated in planning the new campus. The funds obtained through this grant will allow the college to complete the first phase of the project. Phase One will see the completion of two buildings, the Career and Technical Building and one wing of the main campus building for classrooms, faculty, and Student Services. Completion of these two buildings will allow the college to terminate leases on three buildings.
