| Anderson College intends to use its COPC grant to establish the Reed Street Community Project as a major initiative in community service outreach. The Reed Street community need is great; it suffers from a high poverty rate, low educational levels, serious crime, and substandard housing. Through an extensive planning process, the Reed Street Community residents, along with Anderson College personnel and partners, have identified four major focus areas for this project: 1) community education; 2) community organizing; 3) housing; and 4) crime prevention. From these four focus areas, Anderson College has delineated 40 programs to empower residents to take ownership of these initiatives and to direct them through their own leadership and control.
